700 years of florins

The minting of the first Czech gold coins began 700 years ago. Although the florins were soon replaced by the more famous ducats, they have an indelible place in the history of our coinage. This is their story.

It is not without interest that a musical version of the verses written centuries ago by Guillaume de Machaut, poet and secretary to John of Luxembourg, can be heard here in its world premiere…
