Replica of thaler with St. Wenceslas standard
On 5 January 1608, the Olomouc bishop František cardinal Ditrichštejn (1599-1636) received from Rudolf II a privilege recognizing the mintage right of the Olomouc bishops. The privilege was based on deeds confirming the mintage right of Olomouc bishops in the 11th and 12th century in the mint in Podivín. František Ditrichštejn began to strike coins in the newly established Bishop mint in Kroměříž, however at the time of the Estates’ uprising and during the subsequent wars the coins were struck in Olomouc and Brno. The reverse side of the bishop thaler features a beautifully designed figure of St. Wenceslas as patron of the Olomouc bishopric. Three emblems of František cardinal Ditrichštejn with joined upper ends are on the obverse side.
