Product description

The Czech Mint commemorates the 80th anniversary of the brave defiance of European nations that faced the Nazi invasion in 1940 by issuance of a comprehensive set of four gold half-ounce coins from the free cycle War Year. After gaining spurs in 1939, the war machine of the Third Reich took off at full speed - the Germans invaded Norway and Denmark, swept through the Benelux countries, conquered France and were about to strike Great Britain. Nothing seemed to be able to stop them…

  • Battle of Narvik - Fighting for a strategically important non-freezing port raged on land and at sea. The combined forces of Norway, Great Britain, France and Poland opposed the Third Reich, and although they defeated the Nazis in World War II, Norway eventually fell.
  • Battle of France - The French army, the strongest and most respected in Europe, was well prepared for positional battles. However, the defeated Germans in the First World War, did not intend to repeat the old mistakes and came up with a new type of war, which was named Blitzkrieg.
  • Operation Dynamo - After France collapsed under the onslaught of Blitzkrieg, hundreds of thousands of soldiers, who were not allowed to be captured in order to continue fighting, remained imprisoned. Their heroic evacuation from the besieged port of Dunkirk was a real miracle.
  • Battle of Britain - The islands beyond the English Channel have been spared the imminent threat of a ground invasion. The Nazis first had to disrupt the naval supply of Great Britain, demoralize its population and destroy the air force. Thus the greatest air battle in history began.

Four coins, which were processed by the expert medal maker MgA. Josef Oplištil, present various war scenes - a British destroyer shells its German counterpart in Norwegian waters; lightning bolts symbolizing the blitzkrieg, in which German war technology is incorporated, attack the Eiffel Tower; British troops crammed into a small boat leave France and head for the Dover cliffs; a burning German fighter caught with a sighting device in the form of a British flag falls to the ground. The obverse side is common to all four coins - it bears the flags of the states that faced the German attack, stylized in the form of shields and lightnings, which symbolize the Nazi blitzkrieg. As the Czech Mint is granted a license for issuance of commemorative coins by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2020.

The schedule of issuance counts only
99 pieces of complete sets. An integral part of each set is a metal case with a numbered certificate of authenticity. The box and the certificate commemorate the Battle of Britain.
