Product description

The free cycle of the Czech Mint, which is dedicated to the famous sanctuaries, represents its third issue after the dominants of Prague and Paris. A set of four silver coins pays tribute to St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican.

The Vatican
is the smallest state in the world with an area of 0.44 km² and a population of 850. However, its significance throughout the two millennia of human history is enormous, and the building in its heart is no less magnificent. St. Peter's Basilica, which stands on the site where the apostle was martyred and buried, is the largest church in the world. Its characteristic feature is a monumental vault. This dome, which is the work of Michelangelo Buonarroti, rises to a height of 136.6 meters and weighs 14,000 tons. The famous Renaissance artist also contributed to the rich decoration of the interior of the sanctuary, with a statue of the mourning Virgin Mary and the crucified Jesus Christ, known as Pieta. The basilica can accommodate 60,000 people, but up to 400,000 people can attend worships thanks to the spacious St. Peter's Square. Gian Lorenzo Bernini, a revolutionary master for the Baroque (similar as Michelangelo for the Renaissance), who showed the way to the whole world, became the architect of the square.

Individual coins were processed by the medal maker
MgA. Jakub Orava, DiS., who devoted them to various aspects of the Vatican Basilica. The first coin commemorates the death of St. Peter, who was crucified upside down because he did not feel worthy to die in the same way as Jesus Christ. The second coin presents plans of Michelangelo's dome, which offers a breathtaking view of the Vatican Gardens and the city of Rome. The third coin depicts St. Peter's Square with an obelisk and a colonnade, which welcomes all believers as open arms. The fourth coin is dedicated to the popes - it presents their insignia (a bundle of crossed keys that symbolize authority in the earthly and heavenly kingdoms) and the burial ground, which is located in the basilica. The obverse side, which is common to the four coins, is dedicated to Peter's throne. As the coins of the Czech Mint are published in the foreign license of the island of Niue, their obverse sides also bear its necessary attributes - the national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2021.

The set is stored in a luxurious
wooden case.
