Coin commemorating the 20th anniversary of the National Bank of Slovakia

The National Bank of Slovakia was established on 1 January 1993. Since 1 January 2009 when the euro was introduced as the country’s currency, it has been part of the Eurosystem. The National Bank of Slovakia is in charge of maintaining the price stability, participates in the formulation of the monetary policy, issues eurobanknotes and eurocoins and manages a number of other important functions. In its logo, NBS has an ancient symbol of the Celtic coin “Biatec“ with a motif of a horse rider with a sprig. The motif expresses historical and economic traditions of the country. The winning design came from a competition – the author of the obverse side is PhDr. Kliment Mitura and the reverse side was created by Roman Lugár.
The obverse side features motives symbolizing integration of Slovakia in the eurozone and acceptance of the eurocurrency. The main motif ofn the reverse is the Biatec composition and the doublecross with distinct decoration in the background.
