Product description
The fourth silver coin from the collector´s cycle dedicated to dinosaurus represents Stegosaurus.
The herbivorous stegosaurus was not an intelligent creature. Its nine-meter-long body was controlled by a brain about the size of a human fist, but when it was on trial for its life, it could be a murderous opponent. There were four sharp spikes 60 to 90 centimeters long on the tail of the stegosaurus. Two rows of bone plates that covered its back were another unmistakable element of dinosaur's anatomy and it was named according to them in the end. Stegosaurus, translated from Greek, means "roofed lizard". However, these massive growths did not function as armor - because they were not connected with the skeleton and were richly interwoven with blood vessels, they might have served for thermoregulation. Apart from this, they might have been used for communication - they were full of blood and changed color during mating season or in dangerous situations.
The reverse side of the coin is dominated by a stegosaurus in a threatening pose with its tail ready to strike. While the dinosaurus is rendered in vivid colors, the surrounding relief full of prehistoric flora is underlined by patina. The obverse side then bears the portrait and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2020 and the nominal value of TWO DOLLARS (NZD), which means the attributes of the issuer, which is the island of Niue. The coin was processed by the team of the New Zealand Mint.
Each coin includes an elegant box with a colored cover.
