Product description
Another silver coin from the series inspired by the Lord of the Rings film trilogy commemorates the brave Samwise Gamgee.
Hobbits live in a land called Shire and care little about the outside world, let alone interfere in its events. They are mainly engaged in agriculture and crafts. They like simple and direct language, and most of them do not even bother to learn to read or write. They are so inconspicuous that many inhabitants of Middle-earth are unaware of their existence. No one knows exactly where they came from. Even the hobbits themselves have no interest in their own history, except, of course, in genealogy - they revel in family histories and detailed research into intricate kinship relationships. There are famous families in the Shire - the Baggins, Boffin, Bolger, Brandybuck, Grubb, Puddifoot, Hornblower, Bracegirdle, Proudfoot - but also many smaller families. Samwise Gamgee, who worked as a gardener for Frodo Baggins, came from one such family. Little did the shy hobbit know that his quiet job would turn into a grand adventure, and that he would find the courage and strength to decide the fate of all Middle-earth...
The reverse side of the coin is dominated by a coloured depiction of Samwise Gamgee riding in an elf boat. The obverse side then presents the portrait and name of the monarch Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2021 and the nominal value of TWO DOLLARS (NZD) - i.e. the attributes of the issuer of the coin, which is the island of Niue. The coin was minted by the team at the New Zealand Mint with official film licence.
An integral part of the issue is an elegant wooden case with a special mechanism used to display the coin.
