Product description
The theme of this eye-catching silver coin is the struggle between good and evil. These opposing principles are represented by two legendary creatures - the phoenix and the dragon.
Bloodthirsty dragons - mythical lizards that fly and spew fire - are renowned for their power. They thrive on destroying and gathering wealth, devouring poor humans and personifying infernal chaos. Slaying the dragon is therefore a heroic act, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness... The dragon's counterpart is the noble phoenix, a mythical feathered creature that bursts into flames and perishes once every five centuries, only to rise from the ashes in full force. It is therefore a symbol of harmony, rebirth and the eternal cycle of life...
The reverse side of the coin presents an irreconcilable life-and-death struggle between the phoenix and the dragon. Both creatures are gilded for contrasting effect. The decorative relief that surrounds them resembles the phoenix's feathers and the dragon's scales. As the coin was issued with foreign license from the island of Niue, it also bears its national emblem and the nominal value of FIVE DOLLARS (NZD) on the obverse side.
The issue limit of the elaborated coin, which is the work of Le Grand Mint, is just 111 pieces.
