Product description
In 2018 we commemorate two centuries of existence of our largest and most important museum institution, which is the National Museum. The Czech National Bank could not omit this jubilee and issued a silver commemorative coin in extraordinary proof quality with a nominal value of 200 CZK.
The National Museum has gathered millions of irreplaceable exhibits from a variety of fields including natural and social sciences during its existence. There is, for example, a 105,000-year-old extraction of the Neanderthal cranial cavity or a complete whale skeleton. The history of czech numismatics is linked to the museum, and the development of czech archeology and paleontology was equally important. It represents the richness and depth of our history for two centuries, and proves that czech science has nothing to do with the study of world nations.
The coin of an expert medal maker Mgr. Petr Horak is an example of the treasure that we can find in the collections of the National Museum. Two imaginary showcases containing the skeleton of the fin whale, the fossil of trilobite, the stone sculpture of the Celt head from Msecke Zehrovice, the denographer of the prince of Bohemia named Ottokar II, together with two extinct animals - the thylacine and The Cape Verde giant skink are depicted on the obverse side of the two-hundred crown. The reverse side of the coin was dedicated to two buildings of the National Museum – historical and new one.
All czech coins are minted in the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
