Product description
In 2017, 75 years have passed since one of the most memorable World War II events. It was the work of the Czechoslovaks which carried the cover name the Anthropoid operation and is remembered by this 200 CZK silver coin from the Czech National Bank in standard high quality.
Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Hermann Goering, Joseph Goebbels, ... - the hated names of the highest representatives of Nazi Germany which will remain associated with human suffering forever. Although their evil empire was eventually defeated before facing justice, they preferred suicide. In fact, none of the Nazi captives died in the Second World War due to enemy fire. Reinhard Heydrich, the third man of the Third Reich and the Holocaust architect became the Reich Protector of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. He decided to devote all his devilish craft to the humiliation of the rebellious Czechs, he established bloody purges and a rule of terror. Representatives of the Czechoslovak Foreign Resistance responded by launching Operation Anthropoid and sent two paratroopers Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš into occupied homeland territory. They attacked Heydrich and ended his rule of terror on May 27, 1942. However, they paid the highest price. In the Church of Cyril and Methodius, where they were hiding with other paratroopers, they fought their last fight and went down in history.
However, neither side of the coin carries their portrait. The death of the “executioner of the Czech nation" is expressed by the detail of his car heavily damaged by the attacker's bomb. The paratrooper hero who fought to his last breath is symbolized by a small ventilation window leading into the temple crypt. Its surrounding is covered with holes from German bullets, and fire hoses that flooded out the temple defenders. The strong symbolism that impressed the expert committee, chairing the Czech National Bank's art competition, is the work of the talented young medal maker Irena Hradecká, DiS.
