Product description

The current five-year cycle of silver coins from the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 500 CZK in standard quality is dedicated to important moments connected with the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia. No wonder there is also the legendary Battle at Zborov.

From the point of view of the First World War, the battle at the Ukrainian town was a small episode, however, its value was extraordinary for the nation at the heart of Europe. It was part of the last Russian offensive and the newly formed Czechoslovak Shooter Brigade was also involved. Its men showed unprecedented courage in the struggle when they took over the initiative after the failure of the Russian troops, they broke the enemy's defense and reigned the battlefield. Their losses were tough but they won the recognition of the Russian commanders and the States of the Agreement, which later recognized they deserved their own state. They have become a symbol of freedom and Czechoslovak independence. Many personalities who later shaped our destinies were among them - for example future heroes of World War II Karel Janoušek and Ludvík Svoboda, who became the seventh president of Czechoslovakia. Without knowing it before the battle, the 19th Division of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, half formed by their compatriots, stood with irony of fate against them. According to the legend, one of the future presidents of Czechoslovakia, Klement Gottwald, was among the faithful emperors.

The young talent Asamat Baltaev, DiS, won the CNB Art Competition. The expert committee appreciated "very dramatic and detailed depiction of the course of the battle on the reverse side" and "the symbolism of the obverse side, where the victory over the monarchy represented by the heraldic Austrian eagle was captured in the form of the landmarks of the future Czechoslovakia . Compositions of both sides are complemented by copies of 500 CZK, CZECH REPUBLIC, BATTLE AT ZBOROV, 1917-2017.

The Czech Mint situated in Jablonec nad Nisou is the exclusive producer of all Czech National Bank coins.
