Folk motifs
The Čičmany design made Slovakia famous all over the world. It is loved by tourists and folklore lovers, therefore, it adorns all possible souvenirs - including the silver commemorative coins of the Czech Mint.
Although the village of Čičmany has only 100 inhabitants, it has become a symbol of the whole of Slovakia. It owes this to its unique folk architecture in the form of log cabins. People used to paint the wood with clay to protect it from rain, insects and mould. The residents of Čičmany village wanted their homes to be not only functional but also beautiful, they painted them with distinctive ornaments. Other Slovak villages boast painted cottages, but none of them are elaborated. The two-century-old Čičmany pattern, which is made up of repeating geometric patterns, also adorns the folk costumes. The beautiful embroideries are even more elaborated than the paintings on the houses...
The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the medal maker Lenka Nebeská, DiS., presents a Slovak double-armed cross, which is made up of ornaments of the Čičmany pattern. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the licence of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary elements - the national emblem, the nominal value of ONE DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2022.
The coin set in a special packaging will serve as a beautiful regional gift.
