Silver medal Antonín Dvořák proof
Antonín Leopold Dvořák, one of the most prominent composers of all times, is the most famous and most often played Czech composer ever. His symphonies rank among world’s top music compositions, and are usually played at all significant festivals of symphonic music. Until present, professionals and laymen are amazed by his melody inventiveness and the composer’s contemporaries admired it as well (Brahms words: “Dvořák’s ideas for side themes would be sufficient for my main themes...“ are well known). He was made famous by his symphonic works and big vocal and instrumental compositions, as well as by his concert works and operas. Dvořák is a leading representative of so-called Classicist-Romantic synthesy. It is also worth mentioning that the first music piece played after the landing on the Moon was his symphony From the New World.
Instrumental compositions (symphonies, chamber music and solo pieces) form the largest part of his work but his songs, sacred music, cantatas and operas are of the same importance, such as for example “Šelma sedlák“, “Čert a Káča“,“Rusalka“. Very well known are also his symphonic poems (e.g.. Vodník, Polednice, Zlatý kolovrat, Holoubek) and Slavovic Dances.
The obverse side of the medal features the bust of Antonín Dvořák and text 100th anniversary of death in the circumscription. The bust from the period has strong “sculpture“ features.
The obverse side features two stylized female figures. The standing figure reminds of the Statue of Liberty with a book and the kneeling figure of a woman’s open arms. The mint field is decorated with a staff for the E moll symphony.
Limited edition of 1000 pieces.
