Product description

The Czechoslovak presidents - a subject, that excites the historians, but through an engaging series of a commemorative medals from the Czech Mint, also a number of numismatics, who lived to see another increment in their cherished collections: a silver mintage belonging to the fifth president Antonín Zápotocký.

Antonín Zápotocký was a social democratic and then a communistic politician and a president. He was elected to the head of the republic on March 21, 1953 after the death of Klement Gottwald. During his tenure in the government, took a place a monetary reform, which deprived the citizens of a considerable amount of savings.

Athough he promoted a 'popular' approach to the workers, he participated in a political process and other repressive measures. Less known is his literary work - particularly novels, dealing with the beginning and development of the Czech labor movement. However, history remembers him amongst the personalities who have significantly contributed to the course of history of the Czechoslovak state.

To the obverse of the medal dominates a portrait of the politic, with the inscriptions MONETARY REFORM 1: 5/1: 50, ANTONÍN ZÁPOTOCKÝ and 1884-1957. The exhibition of a medalist mastery of the academic sculptor Jiří Dostál is also a layered collage on the reverse - it consists of a symbol and a map of Czechoslovakia, a five-pointed star, whoes extended arm symbolically reaches towards the east, and one-farthing, that represents Zápotocký monetary reform. The tableau complements an inscription PRESIDENT OF CZECHOSLOVAK REPUBLIC and the years 1953-1957.
