Silver medal Czechoslovak Presidents - T. G. Masaryk proof
Nine presidents, nine unique silver medals, nine pieces of art to be added to your collection. Such is the new Czech Mint series Czechoslovak Presidents. The introductory medal is dedicated to Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, great figure of our national history, pedagogue, politician, statesman and philosopher who became the first president of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918.
The unique set of gold ducats and silver medals was designed by academic sculptor Jiří Dostál. On the obverse side the artist masterly portrayed Masaryk in profile together with an inscription "Zasloužil se o stát" (freely translated as T. G. Masaryk – The Founding Father of the State). This sentence is written in the first section of an act adopted in 1930 by the Czechoslovak National Assembly in recognition of Masaryk‘s key role in the founding of Czechoslovakia on the occasion of his 80th birthday. It is also known as Lex Masaryk. The second sentence reads: "Let this statement be carved in stone for eternal memory in both houses of the National Assembly." In addition to this, the president’s year of birth and year of death are placed on the obverse side of the medal. The reverse features the national emblem and text První prezident Československa (The First President of Czechoslovakia).
Masaryk advocated antimonarchist views and called for a better organization of states in eastern Europe. He pushed for autonomy of Czechs and Slovaks and succeeded in persuading leaders of world powers about the necessity and usefulness of foundation of an independent Czech state. Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk was pivotal in establishing Czechoslovak Legions and his efforts to form an independent state culminated on the day of his election as the first Czechoslovak president on 14 November 1918. He executed this function until 1935 when he had to resign because of ill health.
Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk died in 1937. However his merit and ideas have been alive until the present day. The enormous wealth of ideas which he left to his nation in deeds and words does not lose value even after almost one hundred years.
And pure silver from which the medal commemorating this exceptional personality of the national history is made also represents value. Silver medal T. G. Masaryk will enrich your collection as another piece of art with an immense intellectual overlap. It comes in limited edition of 1,000 pcs.
