The constellation called Taurus in Latin, is situated in the northern sky and the sun passes through it from May to June. Next issue beautifying a series of a silver medals from the Old-Town Astronomical Clock, has the Czech Mint dedicated to the astrological sign of Taurus.

Under the influence of Venus, the planet ruling the Taureans, was also born, on 12 May 1820, Josef Mánes.  His feeling for art was therefore written in the stars and it was also thanks to his father - a prominent landscape painter Antonin Mánes. Josef's personal life was not very happy, perhaps that is why he ran to the peaceful countryside. Thanks to the family, at the end of his life, he was awarded the contract to create the famous medallions of the Old-town Astronomical Clock, which became an inspiration for a number of commemorative medals.

The author of the silver medal is traditionally a wonderful medaillist and an academic sculpturesess Daniel Kartáková. The obverse is dominated by the theme of April, which Mánes expressed with a scene of a peasant securing a tree to a support pole, accompanied by his curious children. The smaller circular area on the obverse side bears the symbolism of the sign of Taurus. The reverse side is a tribute to Josef Mánes himself, on which he is portrayed with a palette in his hand, standing in front of his most famous work.
