The Czech Mint published the ninth issue from silver commemorative medals cycle called Apostles and dedicated it to Saint Simon.

Saint Simon has several nicknames in religious texts - known as Simon the Cananite, Simon the Cananaean or Simon the Zealot. In fact, all these words mean the same thing. The apostle's nickname most likely symbolized his devotion to faith, but perhaps also an explosive nature or even a determination to fight against foreign supremacy. Militants of the Jewish anti-Roman resistance movement were called zealots in the Biblical era. The fact that among the disciples of Jesus were Simon, who opposed the Romans, and Matthew, who served them as a customs officer, shows the Messiah's love for all his fellowmen. After Jesus' death, Simon traveled with another apostle - Judas Thaddaeus, who will appear on the medal in 2020 - to the Middle East, where they both died martyred. Simon was crucified and sawn on the cross.

The martyrdom of the apostle was depicted by medal maker Lenka Nebeská, DiS. on the reverse side of the medal. The obverse side is dominated by the saint's depiction with a halo and typical attributes - a saw and a book. The two-line inscription on the obverse side shows APOSTLE SIMON THE CANANAEAN – THE ZEALOT.

The silver medal is not just an addition to the collection. It will become a lucky charm for all dyers, tanners, leather workers, weavers, bricklayers and lumberjacks.
