Silver pendant Yin Yang proof

The Yin and Yang symbolism is rooted in ancient Chinese philosophy and depicts two opposing and complementary energies that can be found in every animate and inanimate part of the universe.

Yin and yang are opposites that both attract and repel each other. One cannot exist without the other. They are the two fundamental principles present in all objects, beings and the entire universe. They are constantly in motion, have no beginning or end, one is contained in the other and vice versa.

This symbolism is based on the Taoist principles; according to the ancient Taoist tradition, all in our life is intertwined. This intertwining is best symbolised by the well-known yin-yang monad.

Traditionally, yin corresponds to dark, female, receiving. Conversely, yang corresponds to light, male and active. Thus, light also defines dark, hot defines cool, fine defines coarse. But it is not a conflict of opposite forces. These cycles repeat, just like days and nights. Yin and yang is a dynamic system, always in motion, always in flux, but always trying to maintain equilibrium.

The yin and yang motif on the medallion is depicted by using a technique typical for minting. The contrast of the interdependent energies is designed as glossy and matte fields taking up the entire face of the coin. The black part is in matte finish, the white part is in glossy finish.
