Product description

The silver plated copper medals(?Is this the right designation-yes completely, if the inner core of the medals are copper?) from the Czech Mint series the ‘Astronomical Clock’ convey a relief of this masterpiece from painter Josef Mánes. The ninth issue represents the astrological sign of Libra and the ninth month of the year - September. Josef Mánes had a strong relationship with nature, human labor and common man. The Czech, especially medieval countryside, was really fascinated by the whole revivalist society, so it's no surprise that this topic became a central motif of the new calendar plate Astronomical Clock. Its twelve large circular paintings bears an allegorical representation of twelve months depicted at work, such as plowing, sowing or mowing. They are moreover complemented with an important landscape elements of Bohemia. Twelve small circles then belongs to the well-known signs of the zodiac.

The author of this coinage and the entire commemorative edition is an experienced academic sculptor Daniela Kartáková. The obverse side of the medal is in the spirit of the actual calendar plate. The larger circle is composed of a farmer sowing grain with the castle ruins of Trosky in the background. The smaller circle features a girl in a flowing dress, bearing the zodiac sign of Libra. Both scenes are supplemented with texts September and Libra. The reverse side is common to all twelve emissions from the cycle and carries a depictions of a painter standing before his life's work completed with an inscriptions Josef Mánes - Prague Astronomical Clock.

Do not miss this elegant album, carefully prepared for collectors - it accommodates all twelve medals from the series and contains coloured images, which were the models for the individual mintages.
