Star Wars Classic: C3PO™ 1/4 oz Gold Coin
The main characters of Star Wars Space Saga are not just humans, but also a number of aliens and robots, the so-called droids.
R2-D2, the first of popular mechanical heroes, has already earned his commemorative mintage from precious metal and it is now his friend´s turn. The protocol droid C-3PO, whose main feature is the gold chassis, became main motif.of the gold coin.
The role of C-3PO was played by British Anthony Daniels. At first, the role of a timid robot suffering from anxiety did not attract him. However, he was convinced by the sophisticated scenario along with the first costumes drafts inspired by the legendary mute expressionist film Metropolis from 1927. Robot's costume did not give him many opportunities to showcase his talent at first glance. His face was constantly hidden behind an opaque mask without any facial expression. The actor´s British accent became even more apparent along with his experiences with the mime which allowed him to faithfully imitate the mechanical movements. When the Star Wars became a worldwide phenomenon, it was clear that more episodes will come out. Currently Saga has 9 feature films, several other movies and TV series while C-3PO acted by Anthony Daniels appears in all of them.
The main motif of the reverse side of the coin is the very first scene of the first film from 1977 - the C-3PO and R2-D2 pass through a corridor on a star ship that is under attack by the evil Empire. The coin issuer is the Pacific island Niue, and the obverse side of the mintage therefore bears its attributes, which means the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2017 and the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS (NZD). The relief of an officially licensed coin was made by designers of New Zealand Mint.
