Product description
King Charles III celebrates a beautiful 75th birthday in 2023. To mark the occasion, The Royal Mint pays tribute to him with a commemorative coin.
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II died at the blessed age of 96. For most of teh British people, she was a solid symbol of the monarchy and an unchanging constant. After all, she spent 70 years on the throne. Her successor was Charles III. The controversial prince had long sought to reach out to the British public and, indeed, to his mother, who had taken the reigns at a very young age, and so she had not had enough time for her son. Their family relationship has only improved in recent decades. Elizabeth relied on Charles for much, and he did not disappoint her trust. He was equally committed to not betraying the trust of his subjects. Initially, it was uncertain how the islanders would receive the new head of state and how the former controversial prince would cope with his new role. However, it quickly became clear that Charles III was the man for the job. He takes his role seriously and enjoys it at the same time. He is open, sensitive and tries to be as close to ordinary people as possible. He emphasises environmentalism, charitable activities and social responsibility. His beloved wife, Queen Camilla, who is a firm supporter of the King, has played an unquestionable part in his success.
Charles III's great passion is the protection of nature, and the reverse side of the birthday coin therefore presents not only the royal emblem and the numeral 75, but also plant motifs. "While the magenta is the King's favourite flower, the oak represents strength, morality and education," explains designer Dan Thorne. If you look closely, you'll also find a bee, a dragonfly and a ladybird in relief. The obverse side is dominated by the official portrait of the king, which is the work of sculptor Martin Jennings. The profile is surrounded by the text CHARLES III D G REX F D (Charles III, King by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith), the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP) and the year of issue 2023.
The coin is set in a special packaging full of photographs and interesting facts (in English). Moreover, its design is influenced by a tradition that dates back to the 17th century. This tradition states that the profiles of the monarchs alternate - as the Queen on the coins looks to the right, her son looks to the left.
