Product description

A series of silver coins pays tribute to the adored Lord of the Rings trilogy. The third issue features a movie poster motif commemorating the film subtitled The Return of the King.

New Zealand director Peter Jackson spent seven long years in the world of The Lord of the Rings. He was a little-known filmmaker at the time he made The Fellowship of the Ring. The Two Towers won him the respect and appreciation of his peers and audiences. And by the time he finished The Return of the King in 2003, he was one of the biggest names in world cinema. Expectations were so exaggerated that perhaps the final fantasy trilogy could not live up to them, but Peter Jackson did the impossible and exceeded them. The three-hour-long Return of the King was a groundbreaking film, grossing over $1.1 billion in theaters, making it the second highest-grossing film of all time, and winning all 11 awards for which it was nominated at the Academy Awards. The direction, the screenplay, the acting, the visual effects, the music, the costumes, the emotional depth, ... - fans of the writer J.R.R. Tolkien, lovers of monumental action and fans of chamber dramas had nothing to complain about. The Return of the King is rightly regarded as an unrivalled benchmark of filmmaking even after two decades...

The unusual rectangular coin takes the form of a movie poster. The vivid colours, achieved by colouring technology, feature the story's favourite characters - Aragorn, Arwen, Gandalf, Frodo and Sam. The silver relief is then dominated by the regrettable Gollum. As the issuer of the coin is the island of Niue, its obverse side bears its attributes - the portrait and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2022 and the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD). The design of the officially licensed coinage is the work of the New Zealand Mint's art collective.

Each coin is placed in a special box to display.
