Local ducat of Hradec Králové

Hradec Králové is a statutory town in the Labe River lowlands situated in the Central Bohemian region at the confluence of rivers Labe and Orlice. In the Middle Ages it was a royal dowry town of Czech queens. Queen Elizabeth Richeza chose the town as her residence and thanks to her influence the town greatly prospered and culture in it thrived.
The town’s landmarks include Gothic Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, White Tower and Old Townhouse. Visitors can also admire jewels of the 20th century architecture here – works of renowned architects Gočár and Kotěra.
Hradec is the seat of the Hradec Králové University, bishopric, there are many theatres and cultural facilities.
Each year the municipality organizes Queen Elizabeth’s Festival – a traditional historical parade and celebration commemorating the glorious period in the town’s history.
The obverse side of the token features the picture of Queen Elizabeth, at the rim there is the name of the local tender 40 Elizabeth’s ducats.
The town’s coat-of-arms is placed on the reverse side of the token, with text in circumscription Statutární město Hradec králové (Statutory town Hradec Králové).
