1/4 ounce gold medal Hluboká Castle proof
This initially royal fortress built in the 13th century was rebuilt several time. It was the reconstruction carried out between 1840 and 1871 that gave it the present Neo-Gothic appearance. It was a former residence of the princely family of the Schwarzenbergs who deserve praise for its reconstruction by the example of the royal castle of Windsor.
On the obverse side of the medal the front view of the Hluboká Castle is featured which emphasizes the grandiosity and monumentality of the building yet shows details of the facade.
The legend “ZÁMEK HLUBOKÁ“ is placed in two lines below the motif of the castle so that it evokes the horizontal arrangement of the castle garden in front of the castle. The relief of the medal copies plastically the shape of the building.
A motif of the Schwarzenbergs’ coat-of-arms which dominates above the main entrance to the castle has been used on the reverse side of the medal. The heraldic coat-of-arms expresses the princely family’s main features as well as merits of the family members and milestones symbolizing the development of the barony, which were added to the coat-of-arms several times in the history. The coat-of-arms contains a Latin legend “NIL NISI RECTUM“, i.e. “LAW (or Justice) ABOVE ALL“.
