Product description
Exactly 150 years have passed since the opening of the Royal Albert Hall in 2021. The Royal Mint pays tribute to the London Concert Hall by issuance of a commemorative coin.
Great Britain developed comfortably and changed into a modern constitutional monarchy in the 19th century. The industrial innovations have launched the country into an era of unprecedented prosperity. The population almost doubled and the educated middle class came to the fore. Leisure activities were supported by Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. After the great success of the World's Fair, which took place in Hyde Park in 1851, the prince decided to build a series of specialized buildings for public entertainment. He did not achieve his goals because he succumbed to typhus, but his dream lived on, and a new cultural palace was inaugurated in central London in 1871. The Queen named it in honor of her beloved man, and since then the Royal Albert Hall has hosted various social events - ballet performances and rock concerts, charitable benefits and boxing matches.
The reverse side of the coin presents an oval building inspired by ancient amphitheaters, supplemented with an inscription ROYAL ALBERT HALL and the annual dates 1871-2021. The obverse side of the coin is then devoted to the attributes of the issuer, which means the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the text ELIZABETH II D G REG F D (Elizabeth II., By the Grace of God, Queen), the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP) and the year of issue 2021.
The commemorative coin, minted from base metal, is stored in a special packaging full of photographs that present the history of the Royal Albert Hall (in English).
