Traditional ducat series
The traditional Ducat series of the Czech Mint pays tribute to the supernatural protectors of our homeland in 2024. The relief of the gold five-ducat commemorates the legend of King Jecminek.
When the debauched Prince of Chropyn became the ruler of Moravia, the people fell on hard times. According to the legend, even his pregnant wife, who defended her subjects, was not spared the wrath of the fiery man. Fearing for her life, she decided to flee and hid from her pursuers in a barley patch, where she gave birth to a son. He was given the name Jecminek. The prince searched in vain for them since ever, but found only a hermit, who told him that he would never see his family again because he was not worthy of them. According to the prophecy, King Jecminek will suddenly appear when Moravia needs him the most. He will be endowed with great power, he will free his country from the foreign yoke and he will undo all that his father has done wrong…
Medal maker Lenka Nebeská, DiS., dedicated the obverse side of the five-ducat to the newborn King Jecminek in his mother's arms. He wears a crown on his head and is surrounded by ears of grain. The reverse side, which is common to all four Ducat series mints, presents heraldic animals of the Czech lands - a lion and two eagles.
The mintage of the gold coinage weighing five ducats is only 100 pieces. Its specifications are inspired by the legendary St. Wenceslas ducats.
