Product description
The common history of Czechs and Slovaks lasted 75 years. It was full of joy and sadness, we shared many losses, but also victory, and although our paths eventually split, we are still close to each other not only geographically. Our cultures, languages, thinking and nature are so similar that we will remain “brothers” forever. The commemorative token, which was created on the occasion of the opening of the Slovak branch of the Czech Mint, was dedicated to the capitals of both Slavonic capital cities - Bratislava and Prague.
Both cities are situated on the banks of the majestic rivers - the Danube and the Vltava. They are rich in colorful architectural treasures. While the Slovak capital boasts steel bridge with a futuristic single-pylon and an UFO observation tower at its top, the Czech capital is famous for its medieval stone bridge that was built by Charles IV. Both of them have their magnificent castles which used to be the seat of royal power. Their national theaters show a rich cultural tradition, and their Christian temples give evidence of common religious roots.
The commemorative token was processed by the Slovak medal maker Maria Filová, DiS., who works as an engraver at the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou. The Slovak side of the token belongs to Bratislava and presents the Bratislava Castle, the Slovak National Theater, the St. Martin's Cathedral and the Slovak National Uprising Bridge. The Czech side of the token was dedicated to Prague and bears the St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle, the St. Nicholas Cathedral, the National Theatre, the Rudolfinum and the Charles Bridge. Each side bears a small national emblem in addition to the decorative waves that symbolize the Danube and the Vltava.
The commemorative token presents a sophisticated yet affordable keepsake of cities situated in the heart of Europe.
