Gold coins are not designated just for collectors and numismatists. Smart investors know that such mintages will enrich their portfolio, therefore, many world banks issue purely investment coins. The Czech Republic does not have its own investment coin yet. There is the “Czech Lion” - a number of coins issued with a foreign license by the Czech Mint.

If you ask Czechs to name
heraldic animals, the answer will be the Czech lion, Moravian eagle and Silesian eagle. Few of them, however, suspect that the oldest Czech heraldic animal is the so-called flaming eagle, also called St. Wenceslas - black predator with golden claws and beak (or armor) that is planted with red flames and set in a silver shield. The noble form of the eagle was inspired by the coat of arms of the Roman emperors and appeared before an atypical and exotic lion became a symbol of Central Europe. Firstly, the flaming eagle was a symbol of the Přemyslid dynasty. It was supposed to be used by Prince Bretislav I. It was a symbol of the Czech principality, later a kingdom since the end of the 12th century. However, the decision of Emperor Frederick I. Barbarossa changed everything. He promoted Vladislaus II. for bravery to the king and allowed to replace the "black eagle, that adorned the shield of Czech princes to this day, with a single-tailed lion".

All variants of the Czech Mint's bullion coins were
reworked in 2020, but the main idea remained. Besides the Czech lion in an untraditionally realistic presentation, the reverse side of the gold coin presents two more symbols of Czech statehood - the St Wenceslas crown, which rests on the head of a two-tailed beast, together with an eagle on the shield. The relief was processed by the medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. The obverse side bears the attributes of the island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to mint its own coins- The attributes are the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2020 and the nominal value of 500 DOLLARS (NZD). All this is supplemented with linden branches.
