Gold 2 Ducat SR 2025 - Sissi adventurer proof
Product description
The fifth Ducat series of the Czech Mint, created in 2025 for Slovak collectors and investors, tells the story of Empress Sissi. The famous woman is presented as an adventurer on a golden double ducat.
When the German princess became the wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I, she was not prepared for what the Austrian court had in store for her. The strict mother-in-law tried to lace the unrestrained 16-year-old girl, whose free-spirited father had passed on a taste for nature, art and circus acrobatics, with the rules of court etiquette. Sissi may have outwardly conformed and blended in perfectly with the 19th century elite, but inwardly she remained headstrong. She rode a horse despite the criticism , and even rode in a masculine manner - without a ladies' saddle and straddling. She was considered by many to be the best horsewoman in the world. Then, when health problems forced her to curtail her beloved pastime, she found a substitute in fencing and quickly surpassed her teachers. She also excelled in swimming. Above all, she was always on the move, expressing her not very desirable love for Hungary. However, an unhappy double life, accompanied by a series of personal tragedies, caused Sissi depression and other psychological problems...
The obverse side of the double ducat, which is the work of the medal maker MgA. Petra Čánská, presents an unrestrained Sissi with flowing hair in a mountain setting. Two small medallions depict her riding a horse. The reverse side bears the empress's coat of arms, which combines the symbolism of the Habsburg-Lorraine and Wittelsbach families.
The gold coinage weighing two ducats is issued in a mintage of only 50 pieces and respects the specifications set by the first Republican St. Wenceslas ducats.
