Product description
The longest arch bridge with an upper deck in the world is called Žďákov Bridge and is located in the Czech Republic on the borderland between central and southern Bohemia. Admirers of traffic engineering know it well, because it is not peculiar only for its primacy, but also for its novely airy construction. In 2001, at the symposium Bridges 2001 in Brno, it was awarded Bridge of the century in the category steel road bridges. It fully deserves another tribute- its own gold coin CZK 5,000 in outstanding proof quality, which is another jewel of the numismatic series Bridges issued by the Czech National Bank.
The origin of the name of the construction becomes from the flooded village Žďákov u Chrástu. The idea of buiding the bridge here arose in 1941, but the plan was interrupted by the war and later by an unexpected rise of the water level. Ttherefore the realization begun simultaneously with the construction of Orlík Dam in 1957 and the majestic structure designed by architects MSc. Zeman, MSc. Schindler and MSc. Kohout was finally opened on 27th April 1967. At that time it was the largest double-jointed plain plated steel arch bridge in the world. It holds primacy ionly within the Czech Republic.
The penultimate issue of from the series gold coins 5000 CZK called Bridges is decorated byexcellent artist Luboš Charvát. Design excels in clearrepresentation of the arch of the bridge on the reverse side of the coin and monumental representation of the joints of bridge construction together with the symbols of the Czech land on the obverse side of the coin. The inscriptions on the obverse side of the coin are: nominal 5 000 CZK, the name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC" and the series "BRIDGES". On the reverse , we find the inscriptions "ŽĎÁKOV ARCH BRIDGE" and "2015". The excellent composition of both sides anticipates considerable interest of collectors, therefore, do not miss the latest treasure for your collections!
