Product description
The fourth and final gold coin from the collectible mini series War Year 1941 resembles the insidious act, which paradoxically became a key to the Allied victory in World War II - the attack on Pearl Harbor.
"Yesterday, December 7th, 1941, a day which will live in memory as a day of infamy, the United States of America were suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval and air forces of the Japanese Empire. We will never forget the way we were ambushed. The righteous and mighty American nation will eventually avert this deliberate aggression and will fight the outright victory, even if it takes a long time. I assert that we will not only defend to the very limit, but we will do everything we can to never again become a victim of a similar betrayal. We can not lose. To do this, help us God. "
– the president Franklin Delano Roosevelt
A surprise attack by the Japanese forces on the Hawaiian naval base at Pearl Harbor shocked not only the American president and his people, but the entire world. The attack that came from six Japanese aircraft carriers arrived without declaration of war. Following the raid on the Pacific port, 353 airplanes were damaged and all eight American battleships flooded along with many other vessels and 2403 men lost their lives. In comparison, Japan lost only 65 airmen and sailors. While it may seem that it was devastating victory by the aggressors, the opposite is true. Many lost techniques were deployed and the Japanese failed to sink even one American aircraft carrier - a key element of naval warfare, which still dominates the world's oceans. The United States organized a counteroffensive and their victorious campaign ended four years later by dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Imperial Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto aptly predicted the development of events when after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he said: "I'm afraid we have awakened a sleeping giant and forced him to make a terrible decision."
The author of the complete mini series is the medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. He dedicated the reverse side of the mintage to the scene of the insidious attack - the Japanese planes attacking the harbor with burning and sinking battleships. The scene is accompanied by the inscription THE ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR.
The obverse side of the coin belongs to the island of Niue, which gives to the Czech Mint the license to mint the Smart coins, and thus bears the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II., the 2016 year of issue and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD).
All four gold coins can be stored in a thematic collectible etui, which are offered in the Czech Mint menu.
