Patrons
The Czech Mint dedicated the sixth gold mini-coin from the Patrons cycle to the diligent housewife St. Martha.
Saint Martha is the patroness of all chefs and housewives, but also innkeepers and hoteliers. She is a model of domestic reception and hospitality of the family fireplace…According to the Bible, Martha, sister of Lazarus, hosted Jesus Christ, who respected her care but encouraged her to relax in her hectic work, because there are more important things in the world than being the perfect housewife. The attributes of St. Martha, with which she is often depicted, are, for example, a wooden spoon, a ladle and a cauldron. She has a scarf on her head and a bundle of keys with her, and sometimes she is accompanied by a dragon. According to legend, it threatened the French city of Tarascon, but the saint tamed it with prayer, and thus liberated the city.
The medal maker David Kružliak depicted Saint Martha with kitchen utensils and a holy cross on the reverse side of the coin. The patroness is surrounded by a Czech-English inscription SV. MARTA - ST. MARTHA. The obverse side then presents the profile and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2020 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) – i.e. the attributes of the island of Niue, which grants the Czech Mint a foreign license to mint its own commemorative coins.
The gold coin weighing one half gram is set in a special Czech-English packaging. It will serve as an affordable gift and an original addition to the collection and will become a talisman for good luck.
