Product description
The second gold coin of the Czech Mint from the miniseries War Year 1943, commemorates the 75th anniversary of the events of the Second World War, was dedicated to the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto. The biggest event of Jewish resistance has become a symbol of pride, courage and determination to stand up against an incomparably stronger opponent.
Poland became the first victim of the war in 1939. His Nazi Slavic citizens despised, but the Jewish ones decided to exterminate. The mundane project of the final solution to the Jewish question was still in the infancy, and so the Nazis used the medieval concept of concentration of inconvenient population in ghettos. The Jews were to be concentrated in areas with good rail connections so that they could be later deported easily. It is no wonder, therefore, that one of the largest ghettos was founded in the Warsaw capital. The Warsaw Ghetto, which accounted for only 2.4% of the city's surface, was 380,000 people, or 30% of the city's population. Their food rations reached only 8% of German allowances, and yet the Jews were used as slave labor. They kept the promise that if they were useful to the Third Reich, they would remain alive. When trains began to be traced in 1942, ghetto residents thought they were transported to labor camps. But then the truth about the death camps was shed, and people realized they had nothing to lose. They decided to fight and die with a gun in their hands. Despite the lack of experience and equipment, civilians - both men and women – faced to trained soldiers. With revolvers and fire bottles, they fought against flamethrowers and tanks. They built a sophisticated system of shelters and fortifications where they stayed for 28 days. But then their hearty resistance broke the brutal SS units. Three quarters of Jewish insurgents fell, and another tens of thousands were murdered in reprisals. Still, it was a moral victory - a rebellion that had no chance of success from the beginning and was suppressed within a few hours, lasted for a whole month and became an example of further resistance movements in occupied Europe.
In creating the reverse side, the author's duo Asamat Baltaev, DiS., and academic sculptor Nikolay Baltaev (son and father) inspired one of the most famous photographs of World War II. The helpless Jewish family with their hands above their heads is delivered to the teeth by armed Nazi soldiers. The composition is completed by the burning building in the background and the Polish description POWSTANIE W GETCIE WARSZAWSKIM - the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto. Since the commemorative coins of the Czech Mint are based in a foreign license on the Pacific island of Niue, their obverse side carries the necessary attributes, which are the name and profile of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of the issue 2018. The reverse side, which is common to the entire ministry presents great US and USSR martial awards - the Silver Star and the Order of Fame.
Do not miss the sheet-metal collector's etui decorated with a thematic illustration that will cover the entire four-part ministry of war coins.
