Gold baby and christening ducat tops the series of medals marking the most significant moments in life.
With this ducat, Czech Mint continues in the old tradition of St. Wenceslas’ ducats that were given in the past to babies in cradles by grandparents and godfathers. Even in poor families, a baby received gold coins – to prevent them from poverty.
The motifs on christening ducats are regularly changed.
On the obverse side of the 2012 gold ducat, its author depicted a baby lying on his/her belly on a diaper-changing desk, with an outstretched hand and a baby rattle. The legend on the ducat reads “Dukát k narození dítěte“ (Baby and Christening Ducat).
The reverse side features a composition of toys and the year “2012“ in circumscription.
