The medal was issued on the occasion of the 700^th anniversary of the royal marriage of Elisabeth Přemyslid and John of Luxembourgh.

It marks the historical importance of interconnection of Central and West European dynasties and political legacy of the first Luxembourgh on the Czech throne who married Elisabeth Přemyslid on 3 December 1310 and began to rule Prague. 7 February 1310 is the day of the coronation of the royal couple.

John of Luxembourgh (10 August 1296 – 26 August 1346), Count of Luxembourgh, also known by a nickname John the Blind, the tenth Czech King (1310-1346) was crowned in 1311, temporarily titular King of Poland. John of Luxembourg was more of a warrior than a diplomat, a brave knight rather than a composed king. After the split with Elisabeth Přemyslid, whom he confined in Mělník, he spent most of his life out of Bohemia, however he defended the interests of the Czech state.

In 1322 he captured Chodsko (Chodovia) and in 1329 added Upper Lusatia to the Czech state, as well as part of Silesia. In 1335 he settled disputes of Czech, Polish and Hungarian kings when he gave up the right to the Polish crown and, in return, Kazimierz III the Great gave up the Polish claim to Silesian feud. In 1325 John of Luxembourgh strengthened the currency and from 1325 began to strike gold ducats (3,35g).

John of Luxembourgh was killed in the Battle of Crécy in 1346 while fighting alongside the French against the English during the Hundred Years War.

The obverse side of the medal features the Cathedral in Speyer (in Czech Špýr), where the marriage of Elisabeth Přemyslid and John of Luxembourgh took place, and the Czech and Luxembourgh lions at the sides. The royal crown is placed between the spires of the cathedral and at the lower line there are interlaced medieval letters “I“ and“E“. The area is decorated with small blossom. The composition is complemented with names IOHANNES – ELISABETH in the circumscription.

The motif of the marriage on the reverse side is symbolised by the royal couple. Their hand-in-hand half-figures are framed by two arches inspired by the gothic book drawing, as well as the blossom covering the area on the obverse side. The blossom in the back and the one which John helds in his hand also commemorate the wedding day. The text at the lower rim reads in Czech SŇATEK JANA LUCEMBURSKÉHO S ELIŠKOU PŘEMYSLOVNOU (Marriage of John Luxembourgh and Elisabeth Přemyslid) while dates 1310 and 2010 are placed along the upper rim.
