Product description

Josef Masopust (born 1931) is a former Czech football player and coach who became famous in the 1960s. In 1962 he won the Golden Ball, also referred to as the European Footballer of the Year award. Thanks to his excellent and fair play he earned the Fair Play award for his lifetime sport activities. In 2003 he was selected as the Golden Player of the Czech Republic by the Football Association of the Czech Republic as their most outstanding player of the past 50 years. During his active career he represented Czechoslovakia 63 times scoring 10 goals for the country. In 2014 Czech Mint was proud to add another award to his collection of precious metals – a gold quarter-ounce coin denominated 10 NZD.

With this beautiful gold coin Czech Mint opens a new series titled Czechoslovak Football Legends that will commemorate 11 greatest representatives of the Czechoslovak and Czech football. The design of the first coin is the work of medallist Martin Dašek. The reverse features the portrait of Josef Masopust and text “JOSEF MASOPUST VÍCEMISTR SVĚTA 1962 CHILE“ (JOSEF MASOPUST WORLD VICE CHAMPION 1962 CHILE). The obverse of the coin shows a soccer ball motif and also attributes of the issuer. The gold coin is struck in limited edition of 200 pieces; do not miss the first item from the new series. The current favourable prices of precious metals play into your hands!
