Gold quarter-ounce medal Kunětická hora castle proof
The history of the castle Kunětická hora dates back to the mid 14th century. During the Hussite war it was an important stronghold for the Hussite captain Diviš Bořek of Miletín.
In 1491, the Pernštejn family took possession of the castle. Under their rule the castle underwent major reconstruction resulting in a monumental two-tower castle with ingenious fortifications. In the 16th century, however, the castle was badly damaged during the Thirty Years War and, consequently, by stone quarrying.
In the 20th century, restoration and reconstruction work began aimed at the renewal of the castle.
The obverse side of the medal features the castle on top of the Kunětická mountain viewed from below which emphasizes its monumental size. The text in circumscription reads “Hrad Kunětická hora“.
On the reverse side we can see the coat-of-arms of the Pernštejns who played an important role in the development castle and did its most extensive reconstruction in Late-Gothic style. The text around the rim reads “Rod Pernštejnů“. Composition of the reverse side matches with the lay-out of the obverse side.
