Delay in the CNB's issuance plan

24/03/2026

In response to repeated inquiries from collectors and the media, the Czech Mint – a long-standing and trusted manufacturer of Czech commemorative coins – considers it important to comment on the current delay in the implementation of the Czech National Bank’s issuance plan for the period 2026–2030.

In recent months, none of the planned tenders for the production of CNB commemorative coins have been carried out. These tenders fall entirely within the central bank’s jurisdiction, but their progress is currently being influenced by actions taken by third parties. According to available information, the tenders have repeatedly been subject to complaints and comments from one of the potential bidders.

“Given that the tenders for the production and supply of certain Czech commemorative coins have been challenged before the Office for the Protection of Competition, the CNB is currently preparing repeated tenders. Given the chosen form of the process, various statutory deadlines, and unforeseeable developments, this process will take several more months; therefore, the expected release dates for the 2026 issues have been temporarily removed from the issuance plan on the CNB’s website. For the same reason, no decision has yet been made as to whether all planned coins will be issued later or whether there will be a reduction – the cancellation of some planned issues with or without replacement,” states the Czech National Bank’s Communications Department.

“We want to unequivocally confirm that the Czech Mint is in no way responsible for the current delay in the issuance plan. The tender process is organized exclusively by the Czech National Bank and therefore proceeds entirely independently of us. We certainly understand collectors’ frustration. However, due to legal restrictions and the absence of an official statement from the CNB, we cannot name the specific entity or provide details regarding the cause of the delay in the issuance plan,” explains Michal Voborník, Director of the Czech Mint.

The traditional coin manufacturer based in Jablonec nad Nisou resolutely rejects misleading claims that the tenders are tailored to the Czech Mint. “It is important to emphasize that the tender procedures are not designed to favor the Czech Mint. Their parameters are set by the Czech National Bank. The Czech Mint is in the same position as any other tender bidder from the Czech Republic or abroad. Our company therefore has no privileged position and competes under the same conditions as all other manufacturers,” adds Michal Voborník.

The Czech National Bank expects to publish an outlook on further developments at the end of the first quarter of this year. As soon as this happens, the Czech Mint will inform the collecting public. “If anyone would like to obtain more detailed information about the motions that are slowing down the tender process, we recommend contacting the entity that filed them directly,” concludes the director of the Czech Mint.
