Product description

The cycle of the Czech Mint dedicated to the UNESCO monuments welcomes the third coin minted of non-traditional coin metal - platinum. It was dedicated to a unique village reservation area in Holasovice.

Holasovice is a picturesque South Bohemian village whose origins date back to the 13th century. It was then formed as part of the royal colonization efforts in the borderlands initiated by Premysl Otakar II. The original form of ground plan of the village has survived to this day, and the medieval system of residential houses and granaries has been preserved as well. Holasovice, however, acquired its unrivalled expression first in the 19th century. Peasants began to thrive unbelievably, and they wanted more sumptuous dwellings. Originally timbered buildings were rebuilt and gained an entirely new character, dominated by stucco decoration on the front of the farmhouses - a typical example of the so-called farm baroque architecture. Similar houses with richly decorated wide gables are located in the south of Bohemia elsewhere, however, Holasovice was spared modern reconstructions. Nevertheless, the village is not an open-air museum but a living and unpreserved community today.

The coin is again a work of the gifted female medal maker Lenka Nebeska DiS. The reverse side was dedicated to the village with its characteristic buildings, including the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. A depiction at the top of the reverse side also belongs to the medieval saint. The composition is then completed by the decorative motifs of the farm baroque. The obverse side of the coin, which is common to the entire cycle, contains the portrait and the name of Emperor Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2017 and the nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD). There are the attributes of Niue Island, which provides the Czech Mint with a license to mint its own commemorative coins. Among these elements there is a collage composed of architectural elements of selected czech buildings listed on the World Heritage List.

The Czech Mint has prepared a collector's etui, where all 12 platinum mintages are stored.
