Czech UNESCO Heritage

The Czech Mint dedicated the ninth platinum coin from the collector-investment cycle with motives of UNESCO monuments to the beauties of Třebíč.

The first mention of
Třebíč dates back to 1101. The city has become an economic, administrative and religious center of south-western Moravia. Harmonious coexistence of local cultures of Christians and Jews ensured Třebíč unmistakable atmosphere. In the Romanesque-Gothic Christian St. Procopius Basilica you can see a unique biblical fresco or 700-years-old crypt with original wood ceiling. How is it possible that the timber has survived for so long? This is due to a special procedure when wood has been impregnated with lime milk for 80 years and has acquired stone-like properties. The town hall, poorhouse, hospital, schools, synagogues and cemetery with 3,000 stone tombstones are situated in the uniquely preserved Jewish quarter. What's more, it is the only evidence of Jewish culture on the UNESCO list outside Israel.

“The reverse side is dominated by the view of the
St. Procopius Basilica and a part of the Jewish quarter. It is supplemented by two details - the broken arch refers to the architecture of the Christian church and the Star of David with menorah refers to Jewish traditions, ” the author of the coin Lenka Nebeská, DiS. explains. The composition is surrounded by mould, together with an inscription JEWISH QUARTER AND ST. PROCOPIUS BASILICA IN TŘEBÍČ. The obverse side of the coin, which is common to the platinum series, is dominated by a collage composed of architectural elements of various Czech buildings registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Since the Czech Mint coins are issued with the license of a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes, which means the nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD), the name and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. and the year of the issue 2019.

A special certificate of authenticity
builds an integral part of the coin. The complete platinum collection can be stored in a wooden etui which can be found in the offer of the Czech Mint.
