Czech UNESCO Heritage

The twelfth issue from the collector-investment series of platinum coins, which pays tribute to Czech monuments icluded in a list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, is dedicated to the historical center of Prague.

Prague
is a modern metropolis of world importance - the political, cultural and economic center of Central Europe, but also a unique document of the development of art and human society throughout the millennium. Since the city was founded on the Vltava River in the early Middle Ages, secular and ecclesiastical power has been concentrated in it, which is symbolized mainly by Prague Castle with St. Vitus Cathedral. Next to Hradčany with the largest castle complex in the world is the historic center of Prague, which covers a respectable 866 hectares, consisted of Malá Strana (Lesser Town), Old Town, Josefov, New Town and Vyšehrad. During a walk through Prague from one end to the other, one does not leave the uniform development, so he or she does not even realize that he or she actually passed through the territory of four medieval cities. Old Town, New Town, Malá Strana (Lesser Town) and Hradčany were not just names for individual parts of Prague, however, they were separate cities that were merged into one whole at the end of the 18th century.

The reverse side of the coin ewhich was processed by the medal maker
Lenka Nebeská, DiS., is dominated by a collage composed of iconic Prague buildings - from Charles Bridge, the Church of St. Nicholas to the Cathedral of St. Wenceslas. As an additional motif, the author chose the St. Wenceslas Crown - the oldest and most important part of the Czech crown jewels, which is stored in the St. Vitus Cathedral. The composition is lined with the astragal and the inscription PRAGUE - HISTORICAL CENTER. The obverse side of the coin, which is common to the entire platinum series, bears a collage of architectural elements from various Czech buildings inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with a license of a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, the obverse side still bears its necessary elements - a nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD), the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. and the year of issue 2020.

A
special certificate of authenticity builds an integral part of the coin. Remember that you can store a dozen platinum coins in a luxurious collector's etui.

At the time when the platinum series began to be published, twelve material monuments were inscribed on the UNESCO list. This prestigious list expanded with two more Czech sights in 2019. These will also appear on the platinum coins of the Czech Mint, but they will not fit into the wooden collector's etui which was created in 2017.
