Product description

In August 2014 we commemorate one hundredth anniversary of the formation of the Czechoslovak legion. One entire century divides us from the time when brave and determined young men risked their lives for a better future of their nation – for the formation of an independent state. The Czech National Bank commemorates their deed by issuing a silver coin denominated CZK 200. The design was created by Luboš Charvát, who competed for the favour of the jury in a tender along with 20 other outstanding Czech creative artists. Charvát‘s model persuaded the jury with its original conception and historically precise depiction of details. The author dedicated the obverse side to the flag of the Czechoslovak legion. The reverse side features a true depiction of several legionaries including Serbian volunteers, an inscription VZNIK ČESKOSLOVENSKÝCH LEGIÍ (Formation of the Czechoslovak Legion) and the years 1914–2014.

Many of the tens of thousands of legionaries died during the war did not live to witness the fulfilment of their dream – formation of an independent state. However, their courage and determination to fight for national ideals make them real heroes, although the ideology which came to power in our country after WW2 disgraced them. By issuing the CZK 200 silver coin the Czech National Bank pays them homage they fully deserve. You can also express your thanks to them by adding this exceptional item to your collections.
