Product description

Ounce silver coin with the motif of a floral clock will become an exceptional addition to your numismatic collection and an unusual tool for measuring time.

Carl Linné was a Swedish naturalist to whom we owe the creation of the double biological nomenclature - or the system by which we name species in botany and zoology. When studying plants, he discovered that they have a kind of internal clock that controls their growth, photosynthesis or flowering time. He noticed that different species of wild and garden plants always open and close their flowers at the same time, and based on this he compiled the Horologium Florae. The so-called floral clock takes the form of a dial - a circle divided into twelve compartments, with each compartment showing the flowers that open in the morning or close in the afternoon. The time can be seen in nature. Measuring time in this way has its limits. The functionality of the floral clocks is limited to sunny summer days and can be affected, for example, by insects or rain. But that doesn't change the fact that Mother Nature is a great sorceress…

The reverse side of the coin is a faithful artistic reconstruction of a floral clock from the 18th century. The colours of the individual plants have been preserved with the help of colouring. The obverse side presents decorative ornaments. As the coin was issued under foreign license by the State of Liberia, the obverse side still bears the text REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA and the nominal value of 20 DOLLARS (LRD).

The mintage of the elaborate coin, which is the work of Le Grand Mint, is only 333 pieces.
