Product description
Silver coins of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 100 CZK represent important institutions of the Czech Republic. The motif of the fourth issue, which boasts the highest proof quality, is the Customs Administration.
In 2007, the Czech Republic became part of the Schengen Area. Since it only borders European Union countries, many people have been wondering what Czech customs officers actually do now that they no longer control the country's land borders. The answer is not simple – the Customs Administration, which is a system of administrative authorities and an armed security force, has a huge number of duties and powers. As part of customs procedures, it supervises and inspects imported, exported and transited goods. It administers consumption and environmental taxes. It inspects road transport, illegal employment of foreigners, transport of cash and restrictions on cash payments. It supervises gambling and detects the transport of drugs. It protects intellectual property rights and wild species of animals and plants. The institution, which consists of the General Directorate of Customs in Prague, fourteen customs offices in regional capitals and a fifteenth customs office at Václav Havel Airport, simply looks after the economic and security interests of the Czech Republic, the European Union and their citizens.
The commemorative coin is the work of medal maker MgA. Veronika Durová. The CNB's expert committee praised ‘the imaginative interpretation of the theme, in particular the fan of banknotes symbolising the collection of customs duties, taxes and fees and the large-capacity mobile X-ray machine with the Customs Administration logo’. The relief is supplemented with the state emblem and the texts CELNÍ SPRÁVA (CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION), ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA (CZECH REPUBLIC), 100 Kč, 2025.
All Czech coins, both commemorative and circulation coins, are minted by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
