A two-ounce silver coin inspired by legends of forest fairies is a unique work of art and engineering, as well as a collector’s rarity.

Magical fairies, ethereal beings of the female gender take on a wide variety of forms and personalities. One is tiny, no bigger than a dragonfly while another is indistinguishable from a human woman. They can be kind, playful, and carefree, but also treacherous and hateful. While an evil fairy is capable of stealing a child from its cradle and dancing a boy to death, a good one will help a traveler and become a devoted wife and mother… Some fairies live in the woods, others in the water, and still others fly. Wood nymphs are also known as dryads. Legends about them originated in ancient times, when people still listened to the whisper of the leaves and believed that every tree has a soul. These beings, who are not human even though they take the form of graceful women, originate from Greek mythology, but stories about various forest fairies also appear in Celtic and Slavic legends. According to Greek mythology, dryads lived and died alongside their trees. If anyone harmed a tree, they also touched its spirit. Some dryads were shy and hid from humans in deep forests. Others, on the contrary, willingly helped travelers lost among the trees, leading them to shelter in times of need and whispering to them which way to find their way out of the forest…

The reverse side of the coin features a trio of enchanting forest fairies. These beings live in complete harmony with nature, symbolized by their nudity, the presence of animals that are unafraid of them, and the wild flora. A certified diamond is set into the flower of the plant the fairies are admiring. All of this stands out in high relief accentuated by patina, coloring, and selective gold plating. The richly decorated obverse side is dedicated to the essential attributes of the coin’s issuer, the state of Cameroon. Therefore, it bears its national coat of arms, the nominal value of 2,000 CFA francs, and the year of issue 2026.
