The end of the 12th century was a difficult time for the English. The king, returning from a crusade, was imprisoned in a foreign land. The old Anglo-Saxon nobility could not accept losing influence and wealth to the Norman lords. And worst of all, the common people. Although the poor peasants lived in unimaginable poverty, the king's officials levied ever greater taxes on them. It was then that a legend emerged from the woods of Sherwood called Robin Hood - an unrivalled archer whose arrows never missed their mark, the leader of a valiant retinue who protected the defenceless, and a noble brigand who took from the rich and gave to the poor. To this day, it is uncertain whether Robin Hood actually existed, fought against the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham and loved the fair maiden Marian. Yet he is an iconic figure who continues to fascinate us after eight centuries…

The reverse side of the coin presents a cloaked Robin Hood lurking in a passing carriage. His deadly bow and arrows stand out thanks to selective gold plating. The richly decorated obverse side is then dedicated to the necessary attributes of the issuer of the coin, the State of Cameroon - bearing its national emblem, the nominal value of 2000 FRANCS CFA (XAF) and the year of issue 2024. All this is displayed in high relief embellished with a patina.
