Product description

Commemorative coins from the five-year cycle of the Czech National Bank bounded by the years 2016–2020 commemorate a number of milestones of Czechoslovak statehood. The last silver coin with a nominal value of 500 CZK in quality standard commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Czechoslovak Constitution and the Constitutional Court.

The Constitution is a
fundamental law of the state and thus confirms its establishment and duration. It defines the form of the state system, but it is not just a definition of the organization of power in the country. It presents the fundamental values, principles and traditions of society, guarantees fundamental human rights and freedoms to citizens and declares their loyalty. The Constitution looks into the past and refers to the historical circumstances that preceded its formation. But it looks also to the future and expresses its ambition and determination to protect and build its homeland. The Czechoslovak Constitution was established on 29 February 1920, which gave rise to parliamentary democracy. Its authors were inspired by the documents of the USA, Austria-Hungary and France and added a number of significant innovations. Czechoslovakia was thus among the first states that provided women with voting rights, and it was also among the first countries that established the constitutional court whose task was to assess the constitutionality and respecting of laws.

The Czech National Bank's art competition was dominated by
academic sculptor Zbyňek Fojtů, who won first and second prize. The winning design amazed the expert committee by an interesting connection of two graphic elements - the book binding of the Czechoslovak Constitution of 1920 and the entrance portal of the Constitutional Court - and also by the beautiful design of the middle national emblem.

All czech coins are minted by
the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
