Product description

The five-year cycle of silver coins of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 500 CZK, which commemorates famous means of transport, presents its fourth issue. The coin with the year 2024, which was minted in the standard version, is dedicated to the ČKD Tatra T3 tram.

There were 60,000 trams running around the world in 1988, and a full one-third of this number were produced in the Czechoslovakia. The machine that turned a small country in the heart of Europe into a tramway superpower, and which became the world record holder for the number of units produced, was the Tatra T3. The Prague Transport Company put this rounded tram with its innovative technical concept, which was a modern and representative product of our industry, into service in 1962. The basic type of car ended regular service in 2011, which means a full half-century had passed since the first passenger ride. In total, 14,000 units were built. Two thousand carriages were in service in their homeland, of which the greater half ran on Prague's rails. A huge amount was then exported abroad - especially to the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Romania and East Germany.

The author of the commemorative coin is the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů. The expert committee of the Czech National Bank appreciated in particular "the excellent depiction of the T3 tram and the imaginative composition of views and details".

The exclusive supplier of the coins for the Czech National Bank is the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
