Dog Breeds
The sixth silver coin of the Czech Mint from the Dog Breeds series is dedicated to the Border Collie.
The task of border collies, which are classified as sheepdogs, herding dogs and hounds, was to accompany the herd, protect it from danger and direct its movement according to the commands of the herder. The breed was bred at the end of the 19th century on the border between England and Scotland, and it was this fact that gave it its name - "border". The rugged landscape gave rise to a dog for adversity that is physically fit, agile and weather-resistant, as well as hard-working, attentive and studious. The Border Collie even belongs to the most intelligent breeds. They are able to anticipate commands, get along easily with other animals, and are very friendly with people. Therefore, it is not surprising that they have become the favorite pets of active owners and mistresses and do various physical activities with them.
The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek, bears two depictions of border collies. The first one is coloured, thus making the contrasting black and white coat of the dog stand out. The second, which is embossed, presents the dog jumping over an obstacle - border collies are very energetic and therefore need plenty of space and movement. The composition is completed by the bilingual inscription BORDER KOLIE – BORDER COLLIE. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with a foreign licence of the island of Niue, their obverse side bears the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2022. These attributes are supplemented with a series of footprints - human and canine.
All twelve coins from the Dog Breeds series can be stored in a collector's book which can also be found in the Czech Mint's offer.
