Human body
The sixth silver coin from the Czech Mint's series entitled Human Body is dedicated to the circulatory system – specifically the heart.
The circulatory system ensures the distribution of substances throughout the body and the nourishment of tissues. Through the transport medium of blood, it carries respiratory gases, nutrients, hormones, and metabolic waste products. The closed circulatory system of humans consists of blood vessels and the heart. The total length of blood vessels – arteries, veins, and capillaries – in an adult's body is up to 100,000 kilometers, which is more than twice the circumference of the Earth. The heart, a muscular organ that drives the entire system with its regular contractions, pumps 5 liters of blood per minute – or 7,000 liters per day and 200 million liters over a lifetime. The number of heartbeats during an average human life is approximately 2.5 billion.
The reverse side of the coin, designed by medallist Jan Štekl, DiS., features a colored human heart with a cutaway revealing its internal structure. The composition is completed by the Latin inscription COR (heart). On the obverse side, which is common to the entire series, you will find a colored double helix of DNA. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign license of the island of Niue, they also bear its national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD), and the year of issue 2026 on the obverse side.
All twelve anatomical coins from the Human Body series can be stored in a lavish collector's album, which is also in the portfolio of the Czech Mint.
